The appetite for innovative children’s content in China is growing. The recent change in family planning laws also promise a growing birth rate in years to come. In terms creative content there is a demand for high quality IP across the creative sectors – with Children’s and Young Adult Literature representing around 20% of the 63bn RMB book market in 2015, and with online browser gaming alone for children being worth an approximate 2bn RMB in 2016 to name but two examples.

Jo Lusby, Managing Director of North Asia, Penguin Random House
Jo Lusby is Managing Director of North Asia for Penguin Random House, the world’s largest consumer book publisher. She has set up successful publishing and sales businesses in Beijing, Shanghai, Seoul, and, most recently Hong Kong, where she is now based. 

Jo established the first Penguin Books based in the region in 2005, in Beijing. Under her guidance, Penguin Random House has emerged as the leading trade book publisher operating locally in the highly restricted China market. A fluent Mandarin speaker, Jo is responsible for all business operations, across publishing and acquisition of books for the Chinese, Korean, and English language markets, through to sales and distribution of English language imports from the UK and US. A high profile member of the regional creative business community, Jo is a regular public speaker on a range of subjects including creativity and consumer behaviour in China, digital transformation, freedom of expression, and regulatory issues facing media companies.
