Health and Nutrition in China – The landscape for British supplements and health foods, London, 22 March 2018

Registration is closed for this event

Chinese consumers’ demand for health foods– driven by factors like population ageing, limited availability of primary healthcare, increased disposable incomes and concerns about food safety and environmental pollution – has been well publicised in recent years. The boom in e-commerce and direct sales (personal shopper or ‘daigou’) channels for health foods have also attracted widespread interest.

According to a 2016 study by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), China’s health foods market is worth more than US$144.2 billion. As of June 2016, the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) had approved a total of 16,573 health food products, of which 15,822 were domestic and only 751 were imported.
As numbers above suggest the market opportunity for UK companies is vast but a sound understanding of the business environment and regulatory framework for health foods is prerequisite for a successful entry and expansion into the market.

Join CBBC and CCIC London for a rare opportunity to explore the trends in this booming sector and learn about health food compliance from visiting food supervision experts from AQSIQ.
