Hydrogen Bonding – Exploring opportunities for Financial Services in the Chinese Hydrogen Economy

Registration is closed for this event

There is a genuine desire in both the UK and China to collaborate and trade in those areas where the benefits are self-evident.

Both China and the UK have made binding commitments to decarbonise their economies. It is apparent that hydrogen energy has a meaningful role on the respective roads to net zero, and there are many areas here where the two countries have a complementary fit in this regard. In April 2022, the first UK China Hydrogen Energy Cooperation Forum was held, with Memoranda of Understanding signed between Manchester and Wuhan and their respective universities.

Deloitte's recent Hydrogen Bonding paper (here) looked at the UK and China's ambitions in the hydrogen sector. It introduced the hydrogen supply chain from production and storage to distribution and utilisation and explored collaboration opportunities, mainly where UK technological expertise and China's manufacturing capabilities can come together. A Chinese translation is available (here).

The report called for the financial services sector to engage more proactively on the topic of hydrogen such that the necessary funding can be deployed to support the sector's growth.

The China Britain Business Council (CBBC) has selected hydrogen as a topic to be explored at a series of round tables. The first event will be held on Wednesday 6th July 2022, primarily for a financial services audience.
