China’s re-opening – Opportunities and Next Steps for Scottish Seafood Exporters

Registration is closed for this event

China’s re-opening is the economic story of the year. Even as the country’s borders remained closed for over 1000 days during the Zero Covid policy enforced until January 2023, Chinese consumers appetite for quality aquatic products of provenance saw no decline. China is the leading global consumer of seafood and is the biggest seafood importer. Although seafood products import declined visibly in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic’s disruption of international trade, the long-term trend of imported seafood products sector remains geared towards expansion. China imported seafood products sector saw a strong rebound in 2022, higher than the historical figures in 2019 both in volume and value.

As China reopens for business in 2023, Seafood Scotland and the China-Britain Business Council are joining forces to support Scottish seafood companies’ re-engagement with this vital market. We will offer a half-day China market update and opportunities for 1-2-1 with China sector specialists guide to Scottish seafood exporters looking to restart or increase their sales to Chinese consumers. Speakers will include representatives of the UK government, China Britain Business Council sector leads and invited Chinese retailers, importers and HORECA channels operators. The event will be hybrid to allow for Chinese speakers to join.

Who should attend: Export and business development managers of Scottish seafood companies. Note: Numbers of in-person attendees will be capped at 15 due to space limitations.
